Chardonnay as Hormone Replacement Therapy? Really?

Surprising though it may be, many of you in your 40s and early 50s drift into abusing alcohol as you unknowingly move into perimenopause and menopause.

As estrogen levels slowly drop in women it turns out that alcohol is quite adept to filling your estrogen receptors, as well as easing varying degrees of “feeling out of sorts”. All before you become aware of what’s actually going on.
Combine that with the role shifts women tend to go through in their early 50s and men in their 50s and 60s and the stage is set for alcohol to meet an increasing number of needs.

“Does AA work? Does CBT work? Does therapy work? Does hypnosis work?”

People end up on our website after Googling these and a dozen other “does it work” phrases. The simple answer is yes. They all work for someone.

That’s the easy part. The tough part is who?

Even there, the easiest question to answer is “does AA work?” It does. If you are one of the roughly 4% of men and 2% of women who fall into the AA model.

Who are they? For the most part they are the folks stuck in adolescence – the conformists to whom labels, and medals, and medallions, and slogans, and group cohesion appeal. And of course, the predators (by the way, they’re women as well as men) attracted to that flock of self-anointed victims.

But that’s the easy part and of no concern to us or you.

Why not?

Because if you were part of either group, you wouldn’t have signed up for, or be reading, our newsletter.

So what will work for you?

We don’t know.

But we do know how to find out.

Not being a part of the herd means that what will work for you isn’t a formula, or a cult, or mold to be crammed into. It’s a mosaic.

That’s right – an individual plan composed of the correct proportions of ingredients custom tailored to you, your life, and your wants and needs.

CBT? Assertiveness training? Nutrition? Exercise? Meditation? Yoga? Diet? Strengths? Interests? Spouses?

It’s interesting to discover what will work just for you. And it takes time, common sense, experience, and intelligence.

Which is why no one else is doing it – but we are, so call.
